ACT for Anxiety Course

The ‘ACT for Anxiety’ Group Program

Is anxiety interfering with you pursuing your goals, having meaningful friendships and relationships, or just simply being the person you ideally want to be? The experience of anxiety can make us feel frustrated, powerless, and overwhelmed. Sometimes we may feel scared or distressed to the point that we start avoiding things in our life that make us feel anxious, even if they are important to us. The good news is, you can take back your life! You don’t need to let anxiety dictate who you are, what you do, or how you live. We would like to help you start living the life you want with our ‘ACT for Anxiety’ course.

‘ACT for Anxiety’ is a 6 week therapeutic course based on the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The course is practical and experiential, and is designed to help you develop specific psychological skills to help you live a full and meaningful life, whilst also learning how to change the relationship you have with the inevitable psychological pain and anxiety that comes with being human.

What is ACT?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) gets its name from one of its core messages: accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life. The aim of ACT is to help you to live a rich, full and meaningful life. ACT does this by:
Teaching you psychological skills to deal with your painful thoughts and feelings effectively – in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you.
Helping you to clarify what is truly important and meaningful to you – i.e. your values – then use that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better.

Why Participate?

While ACT is a relatively new psychological therapy, it has been shown to be useful in treating a wide range of psychological issues, and has been shown to be especially effective for anxiety. In fact, a review of 13 clinical trials found that individuals treated with ACT showed greater improvement than those who received all other types of therapy, in 12 out of the 13 trials. As a result, ACT is now becoming one of the most popular approaches for treating anxiety.

The Benefits of ACT

  • Increased psychological resilience and effectiveness for coping with anxiety and life stressors
  • Increased general performance and effectiveness
  • Increased awareness and acceptance of internal experiences (i.e. thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations)
